  • Interesting comments and interesting question - the fact that this question is still being asked makes me wonder whether TW doesn't have enough topics to cover or if sadly, it is because Nigerians still think about these things. I feel it might be the latter.

Arguing on the side of the moral legacy for children has taken me aback as I do not see how social consumption of cigs and alchohol relate to legacy. A legacy is how you bring your children to be responsibile part of a society - characteristics that are in no way influenced by whether a woman smokes or drinks beer. Again, I think as Nigerians, and humans, to some extent, we focus on the superficial, and ignore the deeper components of what a relationship/social interaction etc should entail.

If a woman chooses to smoke or drink, then it is her problem and her business. If you choose not to want to be with her because of that, then that is the other person's problem and naivetie and judgementalism. No, I'm not a smoker, but I am sick of double standards.

  • well,  personally i abhor these habits in women but just like politics and religion, it is accepted in some parts and frowned at in others. it depends on what part of the world it is being done.  speaking in and for nigeria, smoking and beer drinking is just a pinch out of the long list of unacceptables for females.
